Grain Office (TMO) announced that the winter cereal sowing across Turkey has largely been completed. A Pheological Assessment - Analysis Report on Rainfall, Sowing, and Development in Cereal Crops and Pulses has been published.
In the analysis, considering the December rainfall, a %7-11 increase was observed in the Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia regions, while a decrease ranging from %17-45 was recorded in other regions. Compared to last year, while a %37-77 increase occurred in some areas, a decline of %10-62 was noted in other regions.
The rainfall received in December and early January has supported the development of plants in areas where sowing was done late. However, in places with less snow cover, the risk of frost damage is increasing.
A shift in the overall product pattern in the country towards barley and bread wheat has been identified, while transitions from sunflower, cotton, and corn to wheat have become more common. Particularly in the Central Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia regions, an increase in pulse sowing has been observed.
In the Southeastern Anatolia, there is a %10 increase in the sowing of red lentils. Similarly, an increase in chickpea sowing is anticipated; particularly in Diyarbakır and Adıyaman provinces, sowing is expected to begin.
Current field observations indicate an increase in cereal production across Turkey, alongside a significant contraction in some products. The rainfall in the January-March period is expected to be decisive.
