International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) Secretary General Luc Triangle, in an interview with Bloomberg HT in Davos, made critical evaluations on democracy and social equality.
Triangle emphasized that billionaires with an enormous capital range of 16-17 trillion dollars, as referenced by Oxfam and Forbes, are collaborating with far-right leaders not just in the United States, but in many countries. He stated that this poses a significant threat to democracy, saying, “Democracy is an extremely important value in managing our societies.”
While discussing the effects of global economic instability on the working class, Triangle shared some striking figures:
Triangle also evaluated the summit's theme of 'Spirit of Dialogue', stating that workers feel excluded and threatened in the processes of digitalization and green transformation. He argued that workers’ opinions should not be disregarded in decision-making regarding artificial intelligence applications and economic transformation. “If you want to prevent social uprisings, you must include workers in these processes,” he said.
Triangle pointed out that with the right regulations and inclusive dialogue, this transformation could create new job opportunities, emphasizing that instead of being excluded, workers should be made a part of the process.
