In Japan, the leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Takaiçi announced that he will dissolve the parliament as of January 23. It was stated that the government's decision for early elections will take place on February 8. Takaiçi also expressed that he will apply to continue his role as Prime Minister during the election process.
Takaiçi holds the important title of Japan's first female Prime Minister. In the vote held in the 465-seat lower house, she received 237 votes, obtaining the majority, which is regarded as a significant turning point in the political arena.
Previous Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba resigned after suffering electoral defeats. In this context, Takaiçi quickly took on the responsibility and assumed the leadership position.
