This morning, hundreds of farmers and livestock breeders gathered in the Volos region of Greece, blocking the main entrances of Volos Port with their tractors, halting transportation. This protest was carried out to express significant demands to the government.
Fishermen participating in the event provided support from the sea by positioning their boats in the open part of the port. Following the protest, police implemented extensive security measures, resulting in the port being closed for approximately five hours.
Farmer Dimitris Kalogeropulos stated in an interview with AA, "We are in a difficult situation, we need to make our voices heard. Closing the port is not easy for us, but we have no other choice."
Volos fisherman Nikos Stavrianos emphasized solidarity, saying, "Farmers are not alone; we experience the same problems. That’s why it was our duty to provide support from the sea."
Greek farmers are expected to close Thessaloniki Port on Friday. During these nationwide protests, intercity highways, airports, and border crossings are frequently affected.
Farmers demand the implementation of regulations to reduce high production costs, along with addressing allegations of corruption in state incentives and delayed support payments.
