Farmers' protests in Greece, ongoing since December 1, continue to spread across the country. Farmers are organizing more effective demonstrations due to increasing economic difficulties and the suspension of EU agricultural supports.
Greek producers are raising their voices against the government by blocking roads, while farmer unions hold meetings to determine new steps. In particular, the 600 million euro worth of EU supports and delays in payments are creating financial challenges for farmers. This situation is causing many producers difficulties and preventing them from entering their fields during the planting season.
According to a report by Ekathimerini, in addition to three ongoing blockades on the Athens–Lamia (E75) highway, there are two blockages on Ionia Odos and two on the E65 highway. Egnatia Odos is closed at three separate points. On the Xanthi–Komotini route, traffic is opened in one direction while the opposite lane remains closed.
In Central Macedonia, farmers will gather on Monday in Trilofos to determine new protest actions. Various blockades continue around Thessaloniki, and protests are ongoing in the Mikrothives area on the Karditsa–Volos highway.
Due to the protests, the Kipoi, Exochi, Evzoni, and Niki border crossings have been closed to truck traffic. In Western Greece, farmers have created blockades at the entrance of the airport in Ioannina, and a large-scale action is being planned on Crete Island.
Farmers' actions in Greece continue to affect truck traffic on the Turkish side. Protests near the Bahçeköy Border Crossing have led to the allowance of only perishable goods and urgent shipments to pass.
