The inspection carried out by the Ministry of Trade began due to claims that a business operating in the Üsküdar Kuzguncuk area charged a fee of 10 TL for lemon added to tea. As a result of comprehensive examinations, a total administrative fine of 37,992 TL was imposed on the business due to 12 violations identified.
Bekir Kaplan, Press Consultant of the Ministry of Trade, stated on social media, “Following claims circulating on some platforms that ‘10 TL is charged for lemon next to tea’, our Ministry immediately took action. The inspection was conducted on November 17, 2025.” Kaplan noted that information regarding the necessary regulations and pricing was provided to the business during the inspection and emphasized that the business representative made a statement regarding the matter.
The examination contained violations related to the price tag regulation under the Law No. 6502 on the Protection of Consumers. According to Kaplan's statement, invoices related to the beverage group of the business for the last 3 months were also requested.
Kaplan stated, “The final assessment regarding the mentioned products will be made by the Ministry of Trade's Unfair Price Evaluation Board after the necessary inspection is completed. We will continue our inspections without interruption to protect consumers, ensure price accuracy, and maintain market order.” This situation serves as an important warning for all businesses and aims to create awareness among consumers.
