Prior to the International Resort Tourism Congress held in Antalya, important evaluations were made with Sezgin Yılmaz, Deputy General Manager of İş Bankası, and Kaan Kavaloğlu, President of the Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers and Operators Association (AKTOB).
AKTOB President Kavaloğlu emphasized that the Euro should be 60 lira for the year 2024. Otherwise, he stated that the tourism sector would face significant challenges. İş Bankası Deputy General Manager Sezgin Yılmaz predicted that the cash flows of SMEs would be severely disrupted, and that this situation was expected to continue until 2025.
Sezgin Yılmaz expressed that the increase in credit follow-up rates would affect many sectors, especially textiles, over the next two years. The difficulties encountered by SMEs in accessing finance are deepening liquidity problems.
Sezgin attributed the prioritization of tourism to the need for foreign currency inflows. The tourism sector, which constitutes a significant part of the economy, can gain strength with the support of the financial sector.
It was indicated that defense industry, manufacturing, and exporting firms were given priority in credit distribution, while emphasizing that resources are limited.
Kavaloğlu warned that if the Euro remains below 60 lira in 2026, it could lead to problems in the tourism sector. Additionally, he noted that rents have reached 50% of salaries.
The fact that Turkey's significant markets are in a state of war may adversely affect the tourism sector. The absence of rival countries in war zones poses a disadvantage for Turkey.
