


Hayley Martin founded a children's eyeglass brand called Once Upon a Charm, based in Seattle, following her 4-year-old daughter's vision health issues. During her daughter's eye examination, various difficulties were identified with depth perception, eye coordination, and visual tracking. This diagnosis led Martin to her goal of offering specially designed glasses for children through a sweet story.
The brand offers decorative eyeglass frames priced at $250 for girls aged 4 to 9, which can be accessorized with decorative straps. Each product is designed aesthetically to meet the characteristics of children, in contrast to the traditional scale of adult glasses.
When creating a glasses design, Martin observed the social impact of wearing glasses on children at school. Her daughter stopped wearing her glasses because her classmates made fun of her. Influenced by this experience, Martin made the decision to develop a design that would allow young girls to feel safer and more comfortable.
Katie Hash, an ambassador for the Once Upon a Charm brand, pointed out that many children’s vision health issues are overlooked. According to the National Center for Children's Vision and Eye Health, 1 in 4 children have undetected needs for glasses. Hash stated, “Vision is not just about seeing clearly; it’s about how the eyes and the brain work together," emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and intervention.
Martin's collection consists of three different frame styles named 'Fairy Whispers', 'Mermaid Wishes', and 'Whimsical Wonders'. Each frame comes with two sets of interchangeable decoration kits. The designs include various themes, such as ballet dancers, cakes, puppies, and mermaids.
Martin notes that the European Union has stricter material standards and prefers to comply with these standards to ensure her products are not only beautiful but also safe. The products are designed with high quality in terms of both aesthetics and safety.
The Once Upon a Charm brand aims to design eyeglasses that children will love to wear while also helping families detect vision issues at an early stage.
