Jeff Bezos will serve as co-CEO of a new AI-focused venture in engineering and manufacturing called Project Prometheus. This information was announced by the New York Times.
Project Prometheus has raised $6.2 billion in investment, supported by the Amazon founder. This amount makes the venture one of the best-funded early-stage startups in the world.
This is Bezos' first official operational role since stepping down as CEO of Amazon. Although he is also associated with Blue Origin, he does not hold an official title with that company.
The new venture is competing against industry stalwarts like Microsoft-backed OpenAI, Meta, and Google. The report notes that Bezos is entering this crowded market, where many small firms are vying for market share with new software and products.
Bezos and his representative did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters. Project Prometheus' co-CEO Vik Bajaj is a physicist and chemist who has worked closely with Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
According to the report, Project Prometheus currently employs around 100 workers, including researchers from leading AI firms such as OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta.
