Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko had an important meeting with US President Donald Trump's Special Representative Cole. After the meeting, Lukashenko emphasized that changes are rapidly occurring on the world stage and that many issues need to be discussed. He also stated that he would express how much value Trump places on compliments. However, he particularly noted that he was not satisfied with the recent actions as a reflection of this goodwill.

Lifted Sanctions

According to a report by the Belta news agency, Special Representative Cole announced that they had made the decision to lift sanctions on potassium-containing fertilizers in accordance with President Trump’s instructions. Cole stated, "This is an important step for Belarus. We are lifting the sanctions now," emphasizing the normalization process of relations. He also mentioned that with the improvement of relations between the two countries, the lifting of other sanctions is on the agenda.

Progress of the Meeting and Strategy

Cole expressed that the meeting was productive and that they discussed topics including the war between Ukraine and Russia, as well as issues regarding Venezuela. Lukashenko mentioned that they addressed many topics and different issues, discussing how the two countries could come closer together for their future. Cole stated, "Our goal is the normalization of relations and the lifting of more sanctions."

Pardoned Prisoners

As a result of the discussions, the Belarus Presidential Office announced that Lukashenko had pardoned 123 prisoners. It was emphasized that this pardon took place within the framework of agreements made with Trump and is connected to the process of lifting illegal sanctions imposed on the fertilizer sector. Among these pardoned individuals were citizens from different countries convicted of crimes such as terrorism, espionage, and radical activities.

The improvement of interstate relations may yield more comprehensive and lasting results in the future, while it was noted that among the individuals pardoned by President Lukashenko were citizens from England, the USA, Lithuania, Ukraine, Latvia, and Australia. This situation clearly demonstrates the importance of international diplomacy and the strategic approach of Belarus's leader.
