Walmart and The Salvation Army Reunite to Support Those in Need

Alexandria, Virginia – According to the announcement dated November 7, 2025, as families prepare for the holidays nationwide, Walmart and The Salvation Army are renewing their collaboration to address the growing needs in communities. Walmart reinforces its commitment to providing hope to those struggling with hunger by matching donations from contributing customers.

From now until December 24, Walmart will match donations made through the Holiday Meal Donation initiative up to $500,000. Additionally, between December 2 and December 24, donations rounded up online and through the app will be matched up to $1 million. These matching initiatives will increase the impact of each donation, allowing more families to receive food, shelter, and essential support.

“More families across the country are reaching out to The Salvation Army for assistance in putting food on the table and finding shelter,” says Merle Heatwole, National Commander of The Salvation Army. “Thanks to Walmart and its customers, we will be able to provide food, shelter assistance, and critical resources to those struggling to make ends meet this holiday season.”

Many families continue to struggle with rising living costs and cuts to food assistance programs as local nonprofits face record levels of demand for aid. Through its long-standing partnership with Walmart, The Salvation Army will provide millions of meals, toys, and essential services to those in need — ensuring that there is a bright light of hope this holiday season.

“We know our customers and members feel a deep sense of commitment to their communities during the holiday season,” says Julie Gehrki, Senior Vice President of Walmart. “Once again, by partnering with The Salvation Army, we are providing more opportunities for them to give back. Whether they make a donation at checkout, round up their totals online, or contribute to providing meals for those in need, it’s never been easier for our customers to help out.”

The Salvation Army and Walmart have been partners for over forty years, working together to bring hope to millions across the country. Through initiatives like Angel Tree and the Red Kettle Campaign, children can open gifts on Christmas morning, and families can share warm meals — all made possible by the generosity of Walmart customers and employees.
