With new regulations, the use of winter tires is becoming mandatory for all commercial vehicles carrying passengers or goods on intercity roads. This application particularly encompasses vehicles such as trucks, tractors, tankers, buses, minibuses, and vans.
According to the new conditions, all tires on the axle of these vehicles are expected to be suitable for winter conditions. Drivers who have to change their existing tires while in motion will be obliged to install winter tires. This is evaluated as a critical step for the safety of both drivers and passengers.
The start and end dates of the application are determined by governorships according to the climatic conditions of each province. Additionally, these dates may be advanced or extended by one month if necessary. In regions with severe winter conditions, the implementation is planned to start on October 15th and continue until May 15th.
Under the new traffic fines that will come into effect in 2026, approximately 5,856 TL fines will be imposed on commercial vehicle drivers who do not use winter tires. This penalty serves as a deterrent for drivers to fulfill their responsibilities.
Considering the challenges of winter conditions, taking such measures is of great importance for the safety of both drivers and other road users.
