Record Tourism Revenue Announced from Turkey

According to the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), Turkey's tourism revenue increased by 3.9% in the third quarter of 2023 (July, August, September) compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 24 billion 257 million 815 thousand dollars. During this period, the revenue from visitors was recorded as 24 billion 46 million 779 thousand dollars, and the revenue from transfer travelers was 211 million 37 thousand dollars.

Details of Tourism Expenditures

The total expenditures made through personal and package tours amounted to 15 billion 975 million 385 thousand dollars in personal spending, and 8 billion 71 million 394 thousand dollars in package tour spending. The total revenue for the three-month period reached 24.3 billion dollars, a significant figure. The nine-month tourism revenue was determined to be 50 billion dollars.

2023 Visitor Numbers and Expectations

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that they could rise to fourth place in tourism rankings in 2024, surpassing Italy. The number of visitors in the first nine months rose to 49 million 993 thousand, representing a 1.6% increase compared to 2017.

Increase in Per-Night Expenditures

Minister Ersoy emphasized that the per capita overnight expenditure was 83 dollars in 2017, and this figure is expected to rise to 107 dollars in 2024, and 116 dollars in the first nine months of 2025. He pointed out the importance of reaching a total revenue of 50 billion dollars with a 5.7% increase in tourism revenues in the first nine months.

Year-End Targets

It was stated that the data for October is provisional and definitive results will be announced at the end of November. However, Ersoy mentioned that the October results are also positive based on the current data, and the year-end target has been set at 64 billion dollars.
