Trump's Fentanyl Tariff Announcement

Former US President Donald Trump answered questions from reporters on a plane traveling from Washington to Florida over the weekend. Trump evaluated the general framework of the trade agreement with China by saying, "This agreement is great and will last a long time."

Fentanyl Control and Tariff Reduction

Trump stated that China has offered significant incentives to control the flow of fentanyl. During his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, he emphasized the inadequacy of fentanyl control and expressed that they agreed to reduce the current 20% tariff rate to 10% as a result.

Trump said, "If China manages to achieve these developments, we will eliminate the remaining 10% tariff as well."

Trade Negotiations with Canada

In response to a question about whether trade negotiations with Canada would resume, Trump said, "No, but I have a very good relationship. However, what they did was wrong." He previously mentioned that Canada aired an advertisement containing 'falsehoods' by distorting a speech by former President Ronald Reagan.

Trump announced that he decided to increase the tariff on Canada by 10% on October 25.

Criticism of Democrats

After arriving in Florida, he stated that Democrats are responsible for the government shutdown. Trump said, "The Democrats don’t know what they are doing, which is why the shutdown continues." He added that he is always ready to meet with the Democrats, stating, "Let them open the country, and we will talk."
