Turkish Institutional Investment Managers Association (TKYD) appointed Nilgün Şimşek Ata, General Manager of HSBC Portfolio Management Inc., as the new Chairman of the Board. With this development, a woman has taken on a leadership role for the first time in the history of TKYD.
In a formal statement from the association, it was noted that the new Chairman of the Board and Secretary General is Müge Peker, General Manager of Yapı Kredi Portfolio Management Inc. This change will be valid until the next elective ordinary general meeting.
The new president Ata emphasized the necessity of a strong portfolio management sector for the deepening of capital markets, raising investor confidence, and sustainable growth. Ata predicts that thanks to the fund establishment transition in 2015 and the effective use of TEFAS, the total managed portfolio size will reach 12.2 trillion lira by the end of 2025.
Ata stated that TKYD will continue its efforts to develop capital markets, ensure the protection of investors, and increase long-term savings in the coming periods. She noted that while there were 42 portfolio management companies as of 2015, this number has exceeded 80.
“Our goal is to bring all institutions in the sector together under the TKYD umbrella to enhance the strength of the sector,” she clarified her objectives.
