Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) has announced an important regulation regarding credit card limits, stating that education and health expenses will be exempted. In this context, it was emphasized in the directive letter sent to banks that necessary measures should be taken to ensure that education and health expenditures are not adversely affected.
In the letter from BDDK, it is expected that digital channels will be established to obtain and verify income documents in order to minimize customer distress. This application aims to ensure that expenditures in the areas of education and health are not negatively impacted.
In order for the relevant regulation to be effectively implemented, banks were instructed to establish the necessary system infrastructure within three months. Additionally, it was requested that a roadmap outlining the steps to be taken during this process be submitted to BDDK through industry associations.
With this regulation, it is aimed that credit card limits are aligned with users' actual income levels. Thus, protecting financial consumers also emerges as a primary objective.
