Anchovy Prices Fell, Demand Came from Outside the City!

This season, anchovy caught in the Trabzon region is being sold at a remarkable price range of 50 to 75 lira at fishmonger stalls. Thanks to a bountiful fishing season, it has been observed that the prices of this delicious fish have dropped to quite reasonable levels for citizens.

Particularly at the stalls in the Ortahisar district, other fish prices are red mullet 400 lira, sardine 100 lira, and whiting varying between 350-500 lira. The high quality of the fish and the abundance of the season have increased interest in anchovies.

Fisherman Mehmet Örseloğlu states that the fish catch this year has been quite productive. He recalls starting last year's season with bonito, expressing joy at starting the season with anchovy this year. Örseloğlu emphasizes that the prices of anchovies are at very reasonable levels, highlighting that this situation provides a significant advantage for both the local population and visitors from outside the city.

With the start of the anchovy season, it is observed that demand is also coming from outside the city. The high interest in anchovy, one of the indispensable tastes of the Black Sea, is an indicator of how fruitful the fishing season has been.
