President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan provided important information to the press after the Presidential Cabinet Meeting. He made statements regarding vital developments in Turkey's energy supply security and mineral resources.
Erdoğan responded to criticisms aimed at Turkey's energy security, stating that 4 million households are being supplied with natural gas from the Sakarya gas field, and this number is expected to increase to 8 million by 2026 and 16 million by 2028. He also emphasized that they will obtain the first electricity from the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant as soon as possible, highlighting their determination to continue investing in nuclear energy.
As a result of drilling studies in Beylikova district of Eskişehir, it was announced that 694 million tons of rare earth elements have been discovered. This site is noted as the second largest rare earth resource area in the world. It was stated that 10 out of 17 rare earth elements have been identified through drilling 125 thousand meters at 310 locations. 12.5 million tons of rare earth oxides are located in Beylikova.
President Erdoğan stated that Turkey aims to be one of the top 5 producers of rare earth elements in the world. Initially, 1200 tons of ore will be processed at the Eti Maden pilot production facility, which has been commissioned. He also mentioned that they will continue efforts to transform this facility into an industrial plant.
Erdoğan emphasized that there is no question of the rare earth elements site in Beylikova being given to another country, stating that claims to the contrary are completely unfounded and that vigilance is necessary against attempts to prevent Turkey from benefiting from this resource.
