In the first nine months of this year, a significant increase was observed in applications related to industrial property rights. According to TÜRKPATENT data, during the January-September period, domestic patent applications rose by 19.56% compared to the same period last year, reaching 5,952 from 4,978.
During the same period, the increase in domestic utility model applications was also noteworthy. These applications increased by 27.1%, rising from 1,999 to 2,540. Additionally, the total domestic trademark applications in the January-September period were recorded as 115,194, while domestic design applications reached 25,760.
When the registration data is examined, 2,320 domestic patents, 1,324 domestic utility models, 79,806 trademarks, and 26,930 designs were registered during this period. These figures are considered indicators of the increase in local initiatives and innovative ideas.
In terms of distribution by provinces, Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir rank first in terms of domestic patent and trademark applications. In utility model applications, Istanbul, Ankara, and Bursa are the leading cities with the highest applications. For design applications, Istanbul, Bursa, and Gaziantep are the noteworthy provinces.
These data reflect that Turkey’s capacity for innovation is increasing and that local businesses have a desire to create their own brands. The rising number of such applications across the country serves as an important indicator for both economic growth and competitiveness. These developments in the field of industrial property law will help strengthen Turkey's position in the international arena, thus being a situation that entrepreneurs and the business world need to carefully monitor.
