Grape producers are struggling against falling prices.

In the Sarıgöl district of Manisa, the recent drop in fresh grape prices has put producers in a serious predicament. As the grape season approaches its end, the fact that prices are not at the expected levels is increasing the concerns of farmers who rely on agricultural activities for their livelihoods.

The President of the Sarıgöl Agricultural Chamber, Ali İhsan Ülgen, stated that the decline is leaving farmers even more desperate as they battle high costs under the current economic conditions. The falling product prices, alongside high input costs, are driving producers into a deep impasse during this challenging period.

Manisa, which is a significant hub for the grape industry in our country, is also one of the main centers for the production of fresh grapes during the summer months. However, the sudden price drops experienced this season are negatively affecting both producers' incomes and raising concerns about the sustainability of the sector.

Ülgen expressed that as October approaches its end, “We expected prices to rise during this period, but the situation has developed in the opposite direction. Our producers are putting in effort and taking on serious costs. However, the prices they receive are evident,” he stated.

This price fluctuation in grapes poses significant dangers not only for local farmers but also for exporters. As competition in the export market increases, there is a risk of low-quality products being released into the market in the face of low prices. This situation could affect the reputation of Turkish grapes in both domestic and international markets.

While farmers are trying to develop various strategies to overcome this situation, they are also voicing their demands for increased agricultural support and the establishment of price stability. Producers are waiting for urgent solutions from the government and agricultural support organizations.

Grape producers in Sarıgöl hope for price stabilization not just for this season, but for sustainable production in future periods as well. The issues experienced in grapes, which are their source of livelihood, are not just an agricultural crisis but also a social and economic matter.
