Turkey Travel Agencies Association (TÜRSAB) has filed a lawsuit against 10 international travel platforms such as Airbnb and Expedia. TÜRSAB considers the operation of these platforms in Turkey without paying taxes as unfair competition, stating that local businesses are harmed due to non-compliance with legal regulations.
TÜRSAB President Firuz Bağlıkaya emphasized that they aim to bring foreign platforms to legal grounds with these lawsuits. Stating, "We don't want to prohibit, we want to equalize the rules for everyone," Bağlıkaya expressed that they only demand adherence to the regulations in Turkey.
Bağlıkaya noted that approximately 10% of the total revenue of international platforms is derived from Turkey, revealing that the $25 billion market is dominated by a few global applications. He also added that legal actions have been initiated not only against foreigners but also for Turkish companies during this process.
Addressing the potential market contraction, Bağlıkaya stated, "I don't think there will be a loss in the market after these lawsuits. Alternative platforms are available."
