Renewable Energy Makes Industry Stronger

The President of the Organized Industrial Zones Supreme Organization (OSBÜK), Memiş Kütükcü, made important statements at the "19th Efficient Meetings: Energy Efficiency in Industry - Potential Opportunities Meeting" organized in cooperation with the Energy Efficiency Association and OSBÜK, supported by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.

Transformation of Industry in Turkey

Kütükcü stated that the number of OSBs in Turkey has reached 416, highlighting that there is an OSB in every city across the country. He emphasized that with 68 thousand factories contributing to 45% of the total industrial production in Turkey, direct employment has been provided for 2 million 700 thousand people. He stressed that energy efficiency is critical for the sustainability of this solid industrial infrastructure created for the first 100 years of the Republic.

Energy Costs and Efficiency Strategies

Kütükcü noted that the energy costs of industrialists operating in OSBs have risen to 25% to 40% of their total production expenses, stating that reducing this ratio would greatly benefit the national economy. He pointed out that the transformation recorded in Turkish industry over the past 20 years is due to 60% of the total capacity of 4,800 megawatts of power plants in OSBs being sourced from renewable energy. He remarked that every unit of energy savings contributes to the country's welfare level and industrial gains.

Education and Support Projects

With projects led by the Ministry, energy audits for heating and cooling will be conducted in Turkey’s 6 climate regions. The data obtained from these audits aim to reveal Turkey’s energy efficiency potential. Kütükcü announced that the works carried out in ASO 2 and 3 OSBs have been successfully completed.

Competition and Energy Efficiency

Bilal Düzgün, Deputy Director of the Energy Efficiency and Environmental Department, stated that energy efficiency is now a strategic factor for competition, not just environmental concerns. Düzgün emphasized that incentives in energy efficiency have been restructured and support will be provided for industrialists to reduce their energy intensity. With the new system, incentives will be given not only for energy consumption but also for energy use per product.
