The open letter prepared by DEIK Turkey-Europe Business Councils has been signed by the presidents of business councils from 26 EU member countries and sent to EU leaders. This letter, which includes the demands of the Turkish business world, aims to develop cooperation.
At the press conference titled “Turkey-EU: From Dialogue to Action” held in Istanbul, DEIK President Nail Olpak drew attention to the delays regarding EU membership and the update of the Customs Union.
Olpak emphasized that despite the existing negativities between Turkey and the EU, there is a strong relationship, expressing their desire to be part of the European ecosystem beyond the Customs Union.
Olpak stated, “There is an urgent need to update the Customs Union. Regulatory changes should be made in many areas, from public procurement to agriculture, given the current state of digitalization.” He also expressed concerns regarding border carbon regulations and quotas in the steel sector.
Nail Olpak noted that many European countries support Turkey's demands, stating, “We will continue to work decisively to accelerate Turkey's EU accession processes.”
DEIK Turkey-Europe Business Councils Coordinator President Mehmet Ali Yalçındağ indicated that the letter will be published in the Financial Times to reach a broader audience. Yalçındağ stressed that Turkey's relations with the EU signify economic integration and mutual dependency.
Yalçındağ stated, “Turkey is an indispensable partner for the global challenges Europe faces.” He emphasized Turkey's geopolitical importance, indicating that Turkey will make significant contributions to Europe's energy and security.
Yalçındağ emphasized that “Turkey is an inseparable part of Europe's future.” He asserted that urgent steps should be taken to improve Turkey-EU relations, stating, “The EU cannot establish economic and strategic autonomy by excluding Turkey.”
