Trump Optimistic About Talks with Iran

Former U.S. President Donald Trump made statements to reporters during his trip from Washington to Florida. Expressing satisfaction with the initial meetings in Muscat, Trump stated, "Today, the negotiations with Iran went extremely positively, just as the talks between Russia and Ukraine. It looks like Iran wants to make a deal, and they really want it," he said.

Navy Deployed, Results Awaited

Trump reminded that a large navy has been sent to the region against Iran, stating, "This navy will be there soon. We will see the result of that." He emphasized that the U.S. will take necessary steps but noted that there is no rush. Reminding about the example of Venezuela, he said, "We waited for a while, and we are not in a hurry. We have plenty of time. We are having very good discussions with Iran," he said.

Expectations for Talks and Agreement

Trump assessed the U.S. negotiating team, consisting of special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as engaging in "high-level" discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. He warned that the consequences of failing to reach an agreement would be "very severe," stating, "Everyone knows their cards."

"I want to see an agreement with Iran under acceptable conditions. But above all, there will be no nuclear weapons," he emphasized. Trump noted that Iran had been less eager in previous negotiation processes, adding, "Right now, I think they are more willing to make a deal."

The parties are scheduled to meet again next week.

The talks in Muscat, facilitated by Oman, were announced as a good start, with the parties deciding to continue negotiations. Additionally, the protests that occurred in Iran in January and the subsequent rise in tensions had prompted Trump to issue warnings regarding military intervention.

Finally, it was noted that a meeting originally planned to take place in Istanbul at Turkey's suggestion was moved to Muscat at Iran's request.
