U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would reveal the name of his nominee for the Federal Reserve (Fed) chair today.
Trump attended the gala screening of a film titled "Melania," organized in honor of his wife Melania Trump, at the Kennedy Center, where he answered questions from the press. In response to a reporter's question about the Fed chair nominee, Trump said, "I will announce it today." He also stated, "I plan to announce it tomorrow (Friday)."
This announcement follows Trump's remarks at the first cabinet meeting for 2026 held at the White House last week, where he indicated that the name of the Fed chair nominee would be announced in the coming days.
Among the names Trump might nominate for the Fed chair position are Kevin Hassett, Director of the White House National Economic Council, Christopher Waller, Fed Board Member, former Fed Board Member Kevin Warsh, and Rick Rieder, a BlackRock executive.
The current Fed Chair Jerome Powell's term is set to expire in May of this year.
