The Seabridge ship, belonging to the Lider Line company, has a capacity of 450 passengers and 200 vehicles, and set sail from Trabzon Port in the evening. This trip symbolizes the beginning of a 12-hour journey and is regarded as an important step for tourism and trade in the region.
Mustafa Çakır, Agent and Ship Officer of Lider Line, expressed the excitement of organizing a service on the Trabzon-Sochi route after many years, stating, "We see a high demand from all over Turkey and neighboring countries, especially Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania. Our phones hardly stop ringing and we expect great activity during the summer holiday period. Hopefully, this will be beneficial and we will continue to revitalize this route for many years," he said.
Ayhan Köksal, a dual citizen from Trabzon who was among the 20 passengers on the first trip, expressed that the resumption of services is a great source of happiness for everyone. Köksal emphasized the advantages of the new transportation alternative, stating, "We had to either come by car through Georgia or fly to Istanbul. Now that this has opened, it will be possible to reach Sochi in just 12 hours. There's no need to cover 3,500 kilometers," he said.
The resumption of ferry services between Trabzon and Sochi is a promising development not only for passengers but also for the regional economy. The benefits it will bring in terms of both tourism and trade could significantly contribute to the economic development of Trabzon and its surrounding provinces in the long run.
