Turkish Airlines (THY) announced through the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) that recent news in the press regarding SunExpress does not reflect the reality. THY emphasized that its partnership, in which it holds a 50% stake in SunExpress, continues.
Referring to the claims in the press, THY noted that no negotiations are underway regarding the complete acquisition of SunExpress's shares. The company clearly stated that it has no such initiative.
In the statement, it was expressed: “Our partnership does not have an initiative in this direction. SunExpress operates under a successful partnership between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa A.G., and there are no changes to the existing partnership structure.”
While THY's role in this equation is quite distinct, there is currently no shareholder change for THY, which owns 50% of SunExpress. The company highlighted the critical role SunExpress plays in Turkish tourism and international air transportation as an important player in the European market.
SunExpress, founded in 1989, is an airline known as a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa. It organizes flights to leading holiday destinations in Turkey, especially in the summer months, while providing a significant traffic from Europe to Turkey and other destinations throughout the year.
THY's announcement aims to put an end to the speculations in the press and to restore the confidence of its passengers and investors. Clearly stating that the previous news does not reflect the truth, THY stated that it will continue its partnership and business plans as usual.
