The era of autonomous robotaxis is beginning in Abu Dhabi.

WeRide Launches Fully Autonomous Robotaxi Services

WeRide, on October 31, 2025, received a license to start commercial operations of fully autonomous Robotaxis in Abu Dhabi, becoming the first international company to obtain a city-level commercial license outside the USA. This license serves as a testament to the confidence in WeRide's automated driving technology.

WeRide Robotaxis will operate in Abu Dhabi through the Uber and TXAI platforms. Work is rapidly advancing with this synergy, and details will be shared with the public shortly.

In July, WeRide received the first national license for all autonomous driving vehicles in the United Arab Emirates. This license granted authorization for autonomous testing and operations on public roads across the country. State-level approvals played a critical role in this process.

The established open standards and collaborative approach for autonomous driving technology were of great importance for WeRide's operations to comply with local regulations. Thus, approval for fully autonomous commercial operations has been achieved.

Since 2021, WeRide has been providing Robotaxi services in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with TXAI, launching the largest commercial service in this field in December 2024 in partnership with Uber. By July 2025, it expanded its service network to cover half of Abu Dhabi's central areas.

According to recent data, as of October 2025, WeRide Robotaxis have traveled approximately one million kilometers in Abu Dhabi. The new license eliminates the need for a safety officer in the vehicle, indicating that WeRide Robotaxi services will achieve financial balance.

Starting from the second quarter of 2025, WeRide has been conducting fully autonomous Robotaxi tests in Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with ITC to validate reliability. These efforts underscore WeRide's goal of reaching a fleet of 1,000 Robotaxis in the Middle East by 2026.
