Air Senegal Signs Historic Agreement with Boeing

Air Senegal announced that it will acquire a total of nine 737 MAX aircraft under an agreement with Boeing. This order marks the first Boeing order for the airline since 2004 and is part of its goal to establish the largest fleet in its history. Following the completion of the agreement, Air Senegal plans to expand its regional and international services by leasing these aircraft brand new.

The new 737-8 model will help Air Senegal expand its network in Europe and will enable new routes from Dakar to the Middle East and America. This aircraft also has the capacity to serve secondary cities in Europe, allowing passengers to save time by bypassing major hubs.

Air Senegal CEO Tidiane Ndiaye stated, “This purchase is an important milestone for Air Senegal. This order is part of our strategy to strengthen and modernize our fleet.” He also emphasized that it will reinforce Dakar’s position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.

The 737-8 can carry 178 passengers in a two-class configuration and can fly distances of up to 3,500 nautical miles (approximately 6,480 kilometers). Air Senegal will benefit from the operational efficiency of this aircraft by reducing fuel consumption and emissions by <%20 while also decreasing noise levels by <%50.

Brad McMullen, Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, said, “We look forward to Air Senegal utilizing the versatility, reliability, and advanced technology of the 737-8 to support its growth objectives.” He also stated that they are committed to contributing to the sustainable development of aviation in the region.

Boeing’s 2025 Commercial Market Outlook predicts that airlines in Africa will need more than 1,200 new aircraft over the next twenty years, with an expectation that 70% of these aircraft will be single-aisle jets.

Boeing is a leading global aerospace company that designs, manufactures, and services commercial airplanes, defense products, and space systems for customers in more than 150 countries. Boeing is committed to fostering a culture built on core values such as safety, quality, and integrity.
