Robinhood (HOOD) has announced plans to acquire two local companies as it takes significant steps towards entering the Indonesian market. The agreements with PT Buana Capital Sekuritas and digital asset trader PT Pedagang Aset Kripto signal Robinhood's entrance into Southeast Asia's largest and fastest-growing crypto market.

Details of the Acquisitions

This strategic move is subject to various closing conditions, including approval from the Indonesian Financial Services Authority. Robinhood aims to complete these two agreements in the first half of 2026. Additionally, Robinhood will continue to serve its existing customers while planning to launch Indonesia-specific products over time.

Product Expansion and Competition

In the initial phase, Robinhood will offer Indonesia-specific products for its users. Later, transactions involving U.S. stocks and crypto assets will be expanded. This approach will allow for a gradual rollout of new products while maintaining the existing customer base. Pieter Tanuri, who also played a key role in turning Bali United into a publicly traded football club, will continue to serve as a strategic advisor to Robinhood after the acquisitions.

The Appeal of Indonesia

Indonesia has become a hub in Southeast Asia for developing digital commerce, supported by favorable regulations and increasing digital participation. The country’s Financial Services Authority has licensed 28 organizations for crypto trading by the third quarter of 2025. This situation has drawn investor interest and encouraged international companies to explore new markets.
