The President of Söke TARİŞ Cotton and Oilseeds Cooperative, İsmail Özer, expressed that Turkish cotton producers are facing one of their toughest seasons in recent years. This year, fluctuations in cotton prices and rising costs have severely impacted the financial situation of producers. President Özer emphasized the critical importance of announcing a new support model to be implemented without delay in December and January.
Özer underscored that the current situation represents one of the worst periods for Turkish cotton producers in recent years, stating, ‘Our producers are not satisfied. Even a producer achieving good yields cannot repay the increasing debt burden.’ These remarks highlight the urgent need for action plans to ensure the sustainability of agricultural production. Özer pointed out that the government has significant responsibilities, stressing that cotton producers across Turkey should be supported with an innovative support mechanism.
Cotton farming holds strategic importance within Turkey’s agricultural economy. However, the challenges faced recently have threatened the sector. The financial difficulties experienced by producers in the sector are jeopardizing not only individual livelihoods but also the overall sustainability of Turkey's agricultural policy. In this context, the establishment of a new support model is on the horizon.
President Özer’s call on this matter is seen as a step towards laying a more solid foundation in the agricultural economy. Interventions aimed at strengthening the financial situations of producers can positively influence their production processes and, consequently, the sector as well. In conclusion, the new support mechanism to be created for cotton producers will become a vital element in rapidly responding to the current needs of the sector in the market.
