Despite an increase in the number of overnight stays in accommodation facilities with operational and simple documentation, hotel occupancy rates declined in September as they did in August. This situation raises concerns about the overall trend in the sector.
According to the data released by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the hotel occupancy rate in September last year was 65.49%, while this year it fell to 61.05%. This decline continues to put pressure on hotel operators.
The total number of overnight stays recorded in hotels in September 2023 was determined to be 32 million 754 thousand 196, while this number was recorded as 30 million 381 thousand 718 in the same period last year. The number of overnight stays by foreign guests was 21 million 906 thousand 705, while local visitors accounted for 10 million 847 thousand 491 stays.
The occupancy rate was composed of 40.83% foreign tourists and 20.22% local visitors. This situation highlights the international dimension of Turkey's tourism market.
