Apple is preparing to sign an agreement to pay Google an annual 1 billion dollars to further develop its voice smart assistant Siri in order to enhance the user experience. This decision is a plan to temporarily utilize Google's robust artificial intelligence infrastructure until Apple's own AI technologies are sufficiently developed.
As part of the agreement, Apple will gain access to Google's 1.2 trillion parameter Gemini model. This model aims to significantly enhance Siri's functionality, offering advanced capabilities compared to Apple's current 150 billion parameter system.
Apple will use Google's AI model as a temporary solution until its own systems are sufficiently strengthened. During this process, the Gemini model will be involved in information synthesis and decision-making stages, but some core Siri features will continue to operate with Apple's own advanced models.
Apple will prioritize user privacy by running the Gemini model on its own servers. This way, user data will be completely isolated and secured from Google's infrastructure.
The revamped Siri is expected to be released next spring. Additionally, Apple evaluated OpenAI and Anthropic’s AI models earlier this year; however, after testing, Apple decided to proceed with Google.
