OpenAI and Oracle are starting a major AI project in Michigan.

OpenAI and Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) are working to expand their major AI infrastructure project, Stargate, into Michigan. This expansion is a significant milestone in supporting the next phase of artificial intelligence.

The new campus will be built by Related Digital and construction is set to begin early next year. The project aims to use a more environmentally friendly closed-loop cooling system to reduce water consumption. To meet the electricity needs, DTE Energy (NYSE:DTE) will provide power using existing transmission capacity and will work to ensure the project's efficiency and sustainability.

OpenAI stated that this expansion presents a real opportunity for the country’s res industrialization, indicating that such projects should take place in regions like Michigan. The company expects the project to offer jobs, investments, and opportunities due to its connection to the rapidly growing AI sector.

The Michigan center will be the seventh Stargate site in the United States, joining locations in Texas and others. Upon completion, Stargate will provide over 8 gigawatts of data center capacity and is expected to attract over $450 billion in investment within the next three years. This scale highlights how quickly the AI era is growing.
