Netflix Signs Cinema Agreement with Warner Bros.

Netflix (NFLX) announced its determination to continue the theatrical release of Warner Bros. films. According to a report published by Bloomberg, this move aims to alleviate concerns about Netflix adopting a release-first model. The goal is to provide viewers with a broader range of content and eliminate uncertainties in the industry.

Future Plans with the New Agreement

Netflix’s co-CEOs, Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos, stated in a letter to employees that the agreement with Warner Bros. intends to mitigate concerns about job losses in the industry and the end of theatrical releases. The letter included the statement, “This agreement strengthens one of Hollywood’s most iconic studios, supports employment, and ensures a healthy future for film and television production.”

Return to Cinema and Future Vision

Netflix stated that it did not prioritize theatrical releases in the past, as this was not aligned with its business model. However, now with this agreement with Warner Bros., the company plans to shift towards theatrical distribution. Additionally, a promise was made to support the company’s work culture by stating that “there will be no conflicts or studio closures.”

Scope and Value of the Agreement

This agreement between Netflix and Warner Bros. also encompasses streaming and HBO operations. The total value of the agreement is stated to be $72 billion, and the company is confident that its proposals will yield positive results. On the other hand, they emphasized that the $108.4 billion hostile acquisition offer from Paramount Skydance (PSKY) was not surprising for Netflix, but they believe their own agreements are more solid.
