The 62nd Munich Security Conference (MSC), scheduled to begin on February 13, is drawing attention with the Munich Security Report 2026 titled "Under Destruction". This report provides significant assessments on global security policies and the future of the international order.

The Role of the US and Destruction Politics

The report emphasizes that while the US has been seen as the "guardian" of the global order to date, it has now entered a process of dismantling this order in line with its own interests. The data published ahead of the upcoming conference indicates that "the world has entered an era of 'destruction politics'."

Washington's Strategies and Insecurity

The annual report of the MSC states that Washington's "bulldozer politics", which ignore international law and institutions, have transformed the world into a realm dominated by the interests of the powerful instead of universal norms. 66% of Germans, 52% of Brits, and 50% of French view the US as "a less reliable ally" within NATO.

Reshaping the International Order

The report also points out that the policies of US President Donald Trump have targeted the international system and existing institutions. This policy, described as a "destruction bullet", is warned to potentially weaken inter-country cooperation.

Europe's Security Dynamics

The report indicates that Russia's expanding hybrid campaign has fragmented the post-Cold War security order, and Europe has not yet completed its transition to the role of "security provider." European states are trying to resist this process by increasing their defense spending; however, the uncertainty of how to fill the void created by the end of the Pax Americana period remains.

The Most Important Conference of the Year

The conference, starting on February 13, is expected to host over 100 leaders as well as defense and foreign ministers from around the world. Additionally, the increasing role of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and China in the context of global development will also be discussed.
