DUBAI - A collaboration between Microsoft and G42 has been announced to increase data center capacity in the United Arab Emirates by 200 megawatts. This expansion will be implemented through Khazna Data Centers, a unit of G42, and is expected to be operational by the end of next year. Microsoft has pledged a total investment of 15 billion dollars aimed at the Gulf region with this initiative.

Microsoft stated that its total investment in the UNITED ARAB EMIRATES will reach 7.3 billion dollars by 2023, and an additional 7.9 billion dollars will be allocated between 2026-2029. Additionally, it was reported that the Trump administration has approved the export of advanced technology Nvidia chips to data centers in the Gulf country. The UAE is spending billions of dollars on its way to becoming a global artificial intelligence hub.

Microsoft invested 1.5 billion dollars last year to acquire a minority stake in G42. This initiative is also supported by the Silver Lake private equity firm, Mubadala public funds of Abu Dhabi, and billionaire investor Ray Dalio’s family office.

With this expansion, the artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure for UAE will be strengthened, and Microsoft Azure’s secure, scalable, and sovereign cloud services will be further enhanced.
