Microsoft is starting a new era with Anthropic and Nvidia.

Microsoft's New Partnership

Microsoft announced on Tuesday a cloud infrastructure deal with AI company Anthropic and chip maker Nvidia. This partnership further deepens the software giant's long-standing collaboration with OpenAI.

Anthropic is the creator of the chatbot Claude, which competes with OpenAI's ChatGPT application, and is committed to purchasing $30 billion worth of computing capacity from Microsoft's Azure cloud computing platform.

As part of the partnership, Nvidia will invest up to $10 billion in Anthropic, while Microsoft will make investments of up to $5 billion in the San Francisco-based startup.

These announcements were made just before the opening of the annual Ignite developer conference, by the CEOs of Anthropic, Microsoft, and Nvidia: Dario Amodei, Satya Nadella, and Jensen Huang.

Microsoft was the sole cloud service provider for OpenAI until earlier this year. Although the two parties continue to maintain their partnership, OpenAI is working to secure its own cloud capacity by making large agreements with Oracle, SoftBank, and other data center developers.
