Lafitte Solar will provide 100 MW of reliable and affordable energy to the Louisiana electric grid. The project was made possible through a long-term power purchase agreement with Meta.
This initiative also has a positive impact on the local economy: it will create over 150 construction jobs, generate 32 million dollars in regional tax revenue, and support community initiatives.
The project, which supports the local ecosystem and agriculture, strengthens sustainable land use in Louisiana by utilizing local vegetation and grazing sheep.
According to reports from Austin, Texas, RWE has completed its first project in Ouachita Parish. Lafitte Solar will go fully online and begin energy production by the end of the year.
The project will also provide all environmental benefits, thanks to the agreement with Meta, and will offer advantages such as Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).
The inauguration ceremony of the project was attended by Friday Ellis, the Mayor of Monroe, local officials, and construction partners like McCarthy Building Companies. Andrew Flanagan, CEO of RWE Clean Energy, stated, "Lafitte Solar will provide low-cost, local energy for Louisiana. This energy will power 17,000 local homes and businesses."
Lafitte Solar is expected to generate approximately 32 million dollars in tax revenue over its operational lifetime. This revenue will support public schools, safety services, and emergency services. Once the project is completed, it will create 150 full-time job opportunities for the local workforce.
To increase local jobs and investments, Joe Holyfield (Chairman of the Ouachita Industrial Development Board) commented, "Lafitte Solar has made a significant contribution to the region. It strengthens our local economy and helps sustain job growth."
Amanda Yang, Head of Renewable Energy at Meta, emphasized the project's importance in achieving renewable energy goals, saying, "This project not only adds clean energy to the local grid but also contributes to the local economy."
Lafitte Solar demonstrates its commitment to supporting sustainability. The design of the project site will be surrounded by natural vegetation, helping to enhance biodiversity. Additionally, over 600 sheep will be utilized to maintain healthy vegetation. This practice showcases how agriculture and renewable energy can coexist.
