Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), has made a massive investment of $500 million in a superyacht, earning the title of the world's largest sailing yacht.
Bezos ordered the superyacht named Koru from the famous Dutch yacht manufacturer Oceanco in 2018, with an estimated net worth of $245 billion. According to Boat International, this ship is so large at 417 feet that it cannot dock alongside other private yachts in Florida.
Oceanco is managed by billionaire Gabe Newell, and has previously built yachts for high-profile clients such as Steven Spielberg, Jerry Jones, and Arthur Blank. Bezos’ Koru was first spotted during sea trials in the North Sea in 2023.
Bezos didn't stop with Koru. He also made an additional investment of $75 million for a support yacht named Abeona, which is equipped with a helipad. Koru resembles a luxury resort, featuring a classic design with three jacuzzis, a swimming pool, nine luxury cabins, a cinema room, a spa, a sauna, a massage room, a sunbathing deck, and a gym.
Bezos has hosted many celebrities and business people aboard his yacht, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Bill Gates, Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Wendi Murdoch, the ex-wife of Rupert Murdoch, and Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble.
This record investment highlights the growing trend of ultra-high-net-worth individuals investing in superyachts. The purchase of Koru not only reflects Bezos' immense wealth but also indicates a rising demand for luxury yachts among the world's wealthiest.
By owning the world's largest sailing yacht, Bezos has set a new benchmark in the luxury yacht industry.
