Support Message to the Minimum Wage Determination Commission from HAK-İŞ

Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (HAK-İŞ) President Mahmut Arslan made an important statement regarding the determination of the minimum wage. Arslan emphasized that the decision to not have the worker segment in the Minimum Wage Determination Commission should be supported due to the current structure of the commission not changing.

HAK-İŞ focuses on critical issues such as labor rights and minimum wage in Turkey, aiming to enhance the welfare of workers. President Arslan evaluated this situation, stating that they continue their mission to be the voice of the workers. The uncertainties surrounding the minimum wage directly affect low-income employees and this situation has the potential to create social injustice.

Arslan pointed out that the decision-making processes of the commission should be conducted transparently and fairly, highlighting the importance of workers having strong and effective representation. He also expressed that structural changes are inevitable for solutions to such problems and that labor unions need to play an active role in this process.

Especially with the rise in inflation and the cost of living in recent years, the importance of the minimum wage is felt even more. The HAK-İŞ-affiliated Öz Sağlık-İş Union held its 4th Ordinary General Assembly with a large participation alongside the Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan. These meetings are critical in terms of listening to the opinions of union members and experts.

HAK-İŞ stated that they will continue to stand behind the current decision as long as there is no step back in the process of determining the minimum wage. Thus, they will continue to fight for the demands of the workers to be considered. Mahmut Arslan emphasized that necessary steps should be taken to protect the rights of employees and called for an increase in the effectiveness of unions in discussions regarding the determination of the minimum wage.
