Recently, the increases in food prices have continued to hold significant attention among consumers. According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), in September, the monthly price increase in the food and non-alcoholic beverages group was recorded at 4.62%. The most notable rise within this increase was seen in eggs, with a rate of 20%.
In addition to the remarkable increase in egg prices, other food products also experienced significant price hikes. Particularly, fresh fish increased by 19.16%, fresh vegetables by 11.95%, and chicken meat by 11.82%. This situation created a challenging scenario for consumers' budgets by affecting many products in the food basket.
So, what is the reason behind these increases? The agricultural sector has had to grapple with difficult weather conditions this year. Adverse climatic conditions, such as frost and drought, have created upward pressure on the prices of fruits and vegetables. This situation negatively impacted production conditions, causing significant damage to the supply chain of food products.
Increased demand and decreasing supply played a crucial role in the rising prices. As a result, consumers have had to face higher prices for food products in supermarkets and marketplaces. These fluctuations in food prices in Turkey are always among the important economic issues affecting the public. The difficulties in accessing food may continue in the coming months.
Experts state that in order for food prices to decrease, both the improvement of climatic conditions and the optimization of production processes are necessary. However, it appears that under the current circumstances, it is uncertain when this will happen. Consumers may need to be more cautious in their food shopping and turn to alternative products.
