Turkey's central government budget recorded a significant deficit in September 2023. According to data released by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the budget deficit was registered at 309.6 billion TL. This presents a contrasting picture to the 96.7 billion TL surplus recorded in August.
As of September, the central government’s budget expenditures amounted to 1 trillion 331 billion TL, while total budget revenues were realized at 1 trillion 21.4 billion TL. This situation laid the groundwork for the budget deficit in September.
In the January-September period, total budget expenditures were determined to be 10 trillion 222.2 billion TL, while budget revenues stood at 9 trillion 4.9 billion TL. Thus, the budget deficit for the first nine months of the year reached 1 trillion 217.3 billion TL.
During this period, non-interest budget expenditures were 8 trillion 559.8 billion TL, while the non-interest surplus was calculated as 445.1 billion TL. Especially, the non-interest deficit highlights the importance of effectiveness in budgetary practices once again.
