Erdoğan's 2026 Budget Statements

The President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed important budget details during his party's Group Meeting at the Grand National Assembly. He stated that the 2026 budget would yield a primary surplus.

Budget Revenues and Expenditures

Erdoğan announced that budget expenditures for 2026 would amount to 18 trillion 929 billion TL, while revenues would be 16 trillion 216 billion TL, projecting a 29 billion TL primary surplus.

Social Assistance and Support

Evaluating the effects of the earthquake on the budget, Erdoğan mentioned that they are attempting to bring the budget deficit back to the average levels of prior governments. The social assistance budget is planned to be 917 billion TL for 2026, which corresponds to 4.8% of the budget. Additionally, it was reported that 100 billion TL would be allocated for social housing projects.

Energy Support

Erdoğan stated that government support for natural gas and electricity prices would continue, revealing that 373 billion TL has been allocated within the 2026 budget.

Education and Health Expenditures

Emphasizing that the resources allocated for family, children, and women's programs would be increased by 30%, 34%, and 35% respectively, Erdoğan noted that the education budget would be 2 trillion 896 billion TL, making up 15.3% of the total budget.

Infrastructure and Public Debt

Finally, Erdoğan noted that since 2002, the resources have been directed both to interest and public services, stating that in the 2026 budget, interest expenditures have significantly decreased compared to the past; within total budget expenditures, interest expenses account for 14.5%.
