The beginning of the new year brought disappointing news for bagel lovers in Edirne. The price of the black oven bagel, sold throughout the city, has been raised by 33% from 15 TL to 20 TL. This decision was made based on financial analyses conducted by local tradesmen representatives.
The Edirne Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Artisans had previously decided that the price of the bagel would be 20 TL on September 4, 2025. However, this price increase was contested by the Edirne Governor's Office, which managed to retract the implementation. In this process, bagels continued to be sold at 15 TL until the end of the year. This uncertainty in the tradesmen sector has increased the financial pressures on especially small businesses.
Union President Kemal Cingöz announced that considering the impact of rising input costs on tradesmen, the increased price tariff would come into effect from January 1, 2026. In this context, bagel sales in Edirne will now continue at the updated prices.
With the implementation of the new pricing, there will be additional costs for bagel enthusiasts when shopping. The high consumption of bagels in Edirne makes the impact of the price increase on shopping habits a topic of interest.
This price increase in Edirne is considered an important development not only for bagel lovers but also for the local economy in general. This step, taken to ensure the sustainability of tradesmen and balance the effects of costs, seems likely to affect more businesses in the future.
