Shenzhen, China, October 31, 2025 – A pioneer in autonomous driving technology, DeepRoute.ai has announced that it will begin robotaxi operations using consumer-grade production vehicles by the end of 2025. This initiative represents a significant step towards the commercialization of autonomous driving technology, facilitating the acceleration of large-scale deployment and increasing accessibility for everyday users by leveraging DeepRoute.ai’s production vehicle platform.
DeepRoute.ai, which has received over $500 million in support from investors such as Alibaba and Great Wall Motor, plans to deploy robotaxis using the same proven platform currently in use with approximately 150,000 production vehicles for consumer-assisted driving in China, with that number expected to exceed 200,000 by year-end. This production vehicle approach represents a significant differentiation against traditional robotaxi operators that rely on expensive custom-built vehicles.
DeepRoute.ai eliminates costly retrofitting expenses by integrating autonomous driving systems into production vehicles during manufacturing. Additionally, the map-independent navigation technology removes high-resolution map licensing fees and ongoing maintenance costs. This production vehicle approach allows for rapid expansion into new cities without the need for long mapping preparation times.
DeepRoute.ai CEO Maxwell Zhou stated, “The core strength of DeepRoute.ai’s approach lies in the construction of the robotaxi platform and mass-produced vehicles on the same underlying technology framework, ensuring high consistency and seamless platform interoperability.” The company is continually refining its technology in various urban environments using insights from its expanding global fleet to accelerate the deployment of ready-to-consume autonomous capabilities.
The robotaxi market opportunity holds strong potential, particularly in regions such as Europe, Japan, and South Korea. DeepRoute.ai’s production vehicle approach comes with lower hardware costs suitable for these markets. Factors such as high labor costs in Europe and progressive regulatory frameworks, as well as Japan and South Korea's aging populations and driver shortages create favorable conditions for autonomous ride-hailing services. The company is actively working to establish an operational presence in Europe to support localization and collaborative engagement.
