Traditionally organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, the Ukrainian Breakfast saw global leaders evaluate Ukraine's sovereignty and advancements in Europe's defense industry.
At the meeting, critical messages were shared regarding Ukraine's future from both military and economic perspectives.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that there is no doubt regarding Ukraine's sovereignty, noting Trump's role in the negotiation process. Rutte expressed that the sensitivity around sovereignty will be maintained since Trump was the initiating party for negotiations.
Rutte emphasized the importance of Europe's defense capacity, exemplifying how Germany completed a munition factory with unmanned technologies in just 14 months, a project that was supposed to take 10 years. He also stressed that NATO's main concern is Russia, warning that peace talks should not disrupt the concentration on defense.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb characterized supporting Ukraine as a common security issue for all of Europe. Stubb provided information on the 5 plus 2 document and a 20-point plan, indicating that Ukraine's journey toward EU membership continues.
Stubb stated that Putin's goals of invading Ukraine and preventing NATO's expansion have failed, noting that Russia has lost influence not only on the battlefield but also in regions such as Central Asia and the Caucasus.
BlackRock CEO Larry Fink highlighted the necessity of a new business environment where the rule of law is established for international capital to come to Ukraine. Additionally, Steve Witkoff stated that they are working to establish Ukraine's financial system and are in contact with both sides.
Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever emphasized that Europe is a confederation, and every decision requires consensus. Approaching frozen Russian assets with caution, De Wever warned that spending these resources could lead to serious legal and financial issues in the future.
