One of the important players in the automotive sector, BYD achieved a total of 441,706 vehicle sales in October 2025, experiencing a decline of 12% compared to the same period last year. This sales performance indicates that the company has faced consecutive year-on-year sales losses over the last two months.
The primary reason for the decrease in sales is the 31% drop in hybrid vehicle sales. This weakness in the hybrid vehicle segment appears to have adversely affected BYD's market share. On the other hand, sales of fully electric vehicles showed a positive development, with a 17% increase compared to the same period last year.
BYD's new generation of energy-powered vehicle portfolio includes both passenger and commercial models. The sales of commercial new energy vehicles reached 4,850 units in October, demonstrating an annual growth of 128%. Additionally, a 5% increase compared to the previous month has also been noted.
Moreover, intense price competition and increasing pressure from competitors in the sector have led to a 33% decline in BYD's profits in the third quarter. This situation continues to impact the company’s market performance and remains a significant concern for investors.
In conclusion, BYD's sales decline is seen as a reflection of not only the weakness in hybrid vehicles but also the challenges in market conditions. However, the strong rise in the commercial vehicle segment and the increasing demand for electric vehicles provide clues on how the company will shape its strategies in the coming periods.
