BYD has surpassed Tesla in the UK market.

Chinese car manufacturer BYD Co. has made a significant impact in one of Europe's largest electric vehicle markets by surpassing Tesla Inc. in UK sales.

According to data released on Wednesday by the UK automotive trade group, BYD recorded nearly seven times more new vehicles than Tesla in October. Year-on-year figures show that BYD's sales surged by 600% to 39,103 vehicles, while Tesla's registrations fell by 4.5% to 35,455.

This rapid growth marks a turnaround from last year when BYD recorded only 8,788 vehicles and was nearly 6-1 outpaced by Tesla. This transformation occurred in the UK market, which is set to become the leading market for fully electric vehicles in Europe by surpassing Germany in 2024.

With this latest sales increase, the UK has become BYD's largest market outside of China.
