The spokesperson for the United Nations (UN), Stephane Dujarric, made important statements during a press conference regarding the recent developments in the Middle East. Dujarric stated, "We have examined reports of the violence that occurred over the weekend, and we are deeply concerned about the loss of civilian lives in Israel's airstrikes in Gaza."
Additionally, Dujarric emphasized, "We condemn all civilian deaths," stressing that civilian casualties are unacceptable. He underscored the need for the international community to stand against such actions.
Spokesperson Dujarric expressed satisfaction regarding the opening of the Rafah Border Crossing to facilitate the distribution of aid coming from Egypt as part of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. He stated, "Civilians should be allowed to depart and return safely in accordance with the requirements of international law."
Dujarric highlighted the necessity for essential humanitarian aid supplies to be delivered to Gaza in "sufficient quantities and with fewer restrictions." He also provided information about patients and their escorts crossing from Gaza to Egypt. On Saturday, 37 Palestinians lost their lives in attacks carried out by the Israeli army; this situation was assessed as an unprecedented escalation on the international stage.
